Brunching at Spoon and Stable
At Sage, we believe in the 80/20 rule. That means, 80% of the time, we're mindful of what we're putting into our bodies, and only eating the best options available that we know will make us feel and look our best. However, 20% of the time, we like to cut loose a little, and indulge. As we say, moderation is key when it comes to any lifestyle.
One of my favorite things to do on the weekends is check out some amazing brunch spots that the Twin Cities has to offer. I love indulging in a meal that I wouldn't usually make for myself while sipping on a mimosa or champagne cocktail.
This past weekend, as I celebrated one week of martial bliss with my new husband (lol), we ventured over to Spoon and Stable in the North Loop. We'd been there for dinner, but had yet to experience their brunch. I have been reading rave reviews about their menu, and was definitely very excited to try out some of the pastries and the Crepe Cake (OMG!!).
Sam and I both shared some of their homemade, fresh, daily pastries. The {GF} Blueberry Almond Cake and the Berry Cream Donut. You guys, these are to-die-for. Sam claims this donut is the best he's had in the Cities. And the cake?! Ummmm... "gluten-free" and "moist" don't usually go hand-in-hand, but this cake literally melted in my mouth. I wish I could have ordered a dozen and kept them on hand for the rest of the year!!!
Also, since I mentioned I love champagne cocktails, their bartenders have the cocktail game nailed! The Bloody Mary is one of the best I've ever had. It's completely different from a traditional Bloody, with cucumber, making it refreshing, drinkable, and definitely not as filling as most Bloody's. The French 75 is so delicious and light. Loved the addition of the Pear Brandy to the cocktail; it made it a great fall drink (in my opinion).
Sam decided to try the Red Wine Poached Eggs and I went with the Spinach & Caramelized Onion Quiche. Sam's first words after his first bite "this is what a Pot Roast should taste like"! The dish was comforting and satisfying. It was amazing how much the combination of the eggs poached in the wine with the addition of the sautéed mushrooms made this meal reminiscent of a home cooked roast dinner. I snuck a bite when he wasn't looking, and it was divine (and this is coming from someone who is not a huge fan of mushrooms and has to mask them in every meal...). Remember how I said above that the cake melted in my mouth? Next in line of melt-worthy food? The Quiche.... OMG. It was so light, and fluffy, and actually melted. The textures and the flavor combination with the super flakey crust was perfection. I don't know how people leave this place and not finish their meals....
I had pre-ordered the Crepe Cake, so that I was guaranteed to grab a slice. I was honestly too full to actually eat it, but I made myself try a bite, while we were at the restaurant (we took the rest home). yummmm. layers and layers of doughy crepe and creme. topped with powdered sugar and fresh berries. This paired exceptionally well with their Rosé of the moment (like I mentioned, I like to indulge when I give myself the opportunity... and I definitely did that during this meal).
I would give this place 10 out of 5 stars. I have never been disappointed with a meal from S&S. In fact, I plan to go back this weekend with some girlfriends...and you better believe I'm saving room for some more Crepe Cake.
What are your favorite brunch spots in the Cities? Anywhere worth checking out for the Sage Gals?
